Intimate Vignettes features my dinnerware!

Posted by Tasica Singleton on October 9, 2008 at 11:01 am.
The cute blog Intimate Vignettes is a recent fave of mine and the creator K. Sundari uses her time finding the simple things in life that inspire and intrigue, posting each on her blog in lovely photographs and words. Miss K. definitely has an artistic eye and when I noticed she invites others to share something, anything and everything that may catch her attention, I just had to contact her.

Above: "Let's Go Birding" featured in the October 4th post entitled Owl La La!

My dinnerware collections (through my Etsy shop) are featured in her blog post of today along with a few kind words. She features both my "Let's Go Birding" design from Let's Dish! (which is currently sold out in my shop...sorry!) and my "Spring Fling" sushi platter from Who's Ready for Sushi? (which I have not pictured in the screen-shot above, but may be viewed and purchased on Etsy). Intimate Vignettes is based in Australia and the full blog post featuring my works may be viewed here! The blog is a perfect showcase for many inspiring images and ideas and I thank K. Sundari so very much for featuring my dinnerware!

Words to live by...random thoughts before bedtime

Posted by Tasica Singleton on October 7, 2008 at 10:40 pm.
While going through more sketchbooks, I came across this little cluster of thoughts I had typed-up a few months back. Simple thoughts can sometimes sum up much more complicated ideas. One of my favorites is to take at least one photograph a day, something I have not always been that good at keeping up with.

What a nice little note to read before I go to sleep this early morning. I'm glad I kept this scribbled-on piece of paper, only to forget about and then find again...

I dream in black and white...Coco Chanel inspires

Posted by Tasica Singleton on October 5, 2008 at 12:59 am.
As of late, everything I do seems to go back to the basics of black and white.

It is the cleanliness, the simplicity and the elegance which speak to me and my creativity...each makes me want to create sketch after sketch of dinnerware designs, illustrations and various fashion ideas.

Above: "She Always Gets the Boys," a sketch for a new dessert plate (set of 4).

Fashion sketches above: The only colors here are in the accessories

and candy-colored legs.

Above: "Emo Boys Have Good Hair" is being realized in an exclusive limited edition plate design for the SCAD-Savannah 30th anniversary and SCAD-Atlanta Scholarship Galas, both set for early 2009.

My creations of those images in black and white present themselves in my daydreams, lifting me away into a hyponotic and surreal world painted only with soft greys, heavy blacks like deep bruises, and soothing whites. I want to be lost in that world forever.

The fact is that colors can sometimes take away, distracting the eye from the simple beauty and shape of subject matter. Black and white is just so...black and white. It speaks to me in whispers...and I close my eyes to listen closer.

So what colors do you dream in, and do they make you want to embark on exciting new ventures? If not, try closing your eyes again and see what new colors may appear...

Other guests to include Bill Pullman, James Franco, Troy Garity and Christine Vachon, among others

The Savannah College of Art and Design announces that it will present Lifetime Achievement Awards to actor Malcolm McDowell, songwriters Alan and Marilyn Bergman, and Variety magazine editor-in-chief Peter Bart at the 11th annual Savannah Film Festival Oct. 25–Nov. 1.
SCAD will begin presenting the Lifetime Achievement Awards Oct. 25, the festival’s opening night. A special screening of McDowell’s film “Never Apologize” (2007), about the late, great British stage and film director Lindsay Anderson, will be preceded by a screening of  “A Clockwork Orange” (1971). McDowell is a Golden Globe nominee, recently known for his work in the television series “Heroes” (2007).
Grammy- and Oscar-winning songwriters Marilyn and Alan Bergman are widely known for their work in “Yentl” (1983) and “The Way We Were” (1973). Peter Bart will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award in Entertainment Journalism, which previously has been given to Roger Ebert and Charlie Rose.

Other films scheduled for special screenings include Cannes Palm d’Or winner “The Class” (2007), Mike Leigh's “Happy-Go-Lucky” (2008), Charlie Kaufman’s “Synechdoche, New York” (2008), the animated “Waltz with Bashir” (2008), Philippe Claudel’s “I’ve Loved You So Long” (2008) and Mark Herman’s “The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas” (2008).
Actor Bill Pullman (“Bottle Shock,” 2008) will screen his latest film “Your Name Here” in the professional competition. Other guests set to attend include James Franco, who co-stars in Gus Van Sant’s upcoming “Milk” (2008), as well as Troy Garity, John Hart, Scott Prendergast of “Kabluey” (2007) and Christine Vachon. Additional key film industry personalities will be added in the upcoming weeks.
Nearly all of the Savannah Film Festival special screenings in recent years have gone on to be nominated for Academy Awards in one category or another.

Previous Lifetime Achievement Award recipients have included Peter O'Toole, Vanessa Redgrave, Sidney Lumet, Michael Douglas, Tommy Lee Jones, the late Sydney Pollack, Milos Forman, Jane Fonda, Arthur Penn, James Ivory, Stanley Donen, Norman Jewison, Kathleen Turner, Bruce Dern, Jeff Daniels, Brett Ratner, John Waters and Terence Malick.

The Savannah Film Festival is hosted by SCAD and features independent, innovative and influential films from around the world, as well as workshops, panel discussions and presentations by well-known visiting artists and filmmakers. SCAD students from across the college’s more than 40 accredited academic disciplines participate in the festival to learn about the art of filmmaking from industry leaders.

Award presentations and film screenings will be held at the historic Trustees Theater, 216 E. Broughton St., and Lucas Theatre, 32 Abercorn St. Workshops and other presentations will take place at the Red Gallery, 201 E. Broughton St.
