Nineteen-year-old Joe Tass is dumbfounded when she wakes up in the middle of the road with a bump on her head. She is approached by a very conservative, woman named Mrs. Fitch. With no sympathy, Mrs. Fitch explains that she is Joe’s new boss and that she died in a hit and run while saving a little girl. Mrs. Fitch brings Joe to what is known as “The Queue.” Joe hopes to see an angelic image of the pearly white gates, however she is surprised to see something entirely different. “The Queue” is a big warehouse with people waiting in a series of lines a la DMV. Mrs. Fitch explains that because Joe interfered with the little girls fate, her own fate must be re-written. The process involves a lot of paper work that could take years to go through. In the mean time, she is required to work in public service. Mrs. Fitch assigns her a job at Dead Air Radio, a radio station that plays elevator music for the people waiting in line at “The Queue”. At the radio station Joe meets Christopher, the stations working DJ. He is indifferent with his job and explains that the elevator music is the only music ‘Management” will allow him to play.
