Genre: Drama/Dark Comedy

Synopsis:

Shad, a failing text artist, has moved away from the city to the empty half-house of his agent (Demetri) in order to break his “writer’s block”. With a gallery opening deadline fast approaching, Shad is under intense stress, compounded by the obnoxious tapping sounds coming from next door. When Shad discovers that the tapping is actually morse code, embedded in the daily routines of the old blind man next door, his fascination becomes an obsession. His agent disapproves and begins to harass Shad about the deadline; meanwhile the artist has begun tape recording the walls at every spot where the tapping can be found, devoting his artwork to translating the messages of the blind stranger. Shad seems on a path to ruin until his paintings become selling so fast he cannot produce them fast enough. Shad receives the big call from Demetri that his new style has produced a prosperous website and extra booking at a Paris gallery just as the corpse of the old man next door is being wheeled out.

Lead Character Role: SHAD ELTRY - (between ages 22-33)





a text artist with early success who has hit a slump with his inspiration. he is desperate for ideas, will go for days without eating, and gets into an obsessed "groove" when working. shad is extremely physical and passionate with his art.





Supporting Character Role: DEMETRI ADONIS - (between ages 32-55)





sleazy agent/manager to shad, who milks his client for every drop of art that he can get to fuel his hedonistic lifestyle. demetri comes on as shad's buddy, applying increasing pressure to the artist until he gets what he wants. when it comes to success, demetri isn't big on sharing.





Supporting Character Role: OLD MAN (age 50+)





this is a vital but small role; the old neighbor next door who taps out messages in morse code in his daily routine. the more haggard, aged and/or spotted the hands of the actor, the better.
